Organization: Get Your Office Life Organized

Out with Mind Clutter, In with Organization in Business

One of the best ways that I found to get organized with my office work was to do the following:

I created a notebook. I went down to the local Staples or Office Depot and I look for a specific type of notebook. It was called a record book.

The problem that I was having was simply that I was getting all kinds of tasks and I never knew how to really keep track of the Tasks well.

Electronic task management is great, however, you have to use it. You have to be absolutely committed to entering all of the information into a date and time. This enables you to go back and make sure that you’re completing your tasks.

The problem that I found using electronic task management was simply that if I did not stay on top of it or if I enabled the snooze, I would end up with tons of tasks that I never circled back to accomplishing.

The other problem that I had was that a couple of times I had a computer glitch and it erased everything. This was horrendous. I remember talking to everybody that I came in contact with in apologizing to them first. Thank you again to for their understanding.

I apologized simply because I didn’t know whether or not I stood them up or did not follow through on a task that they gave me.  I allowed my electronics reminders records to basically control everything that I was doing.

I was like a ship without a rudder once I lost it. That is why I went back to the good old fashion write everything down methodology.

Drowning in Sticky Notes

The problem with sticky notes is that they end up all over the place. Sticky notes are great, but you have to learn how to use them well. If you’re not disciplined you’ll end up with sticky notes literally posted all of your desk your computer and other things.

That is why I decided to eliminate the use of sticky notes in my daily life. I mean I use them on specific occasions when they are to notate something that is an update or something to a project that I’m using. However, I no longer use sticky notes to report anything that I am supposed to do

My to do list is now in one centralized location. As I was mentioning before this particular note book called the record book allows you to write in the left-hand margin of the page.

I simply write the topic and then the date on the left-hand side and then I use the regular ledger for any notes/comments or anything else that would be important pertaining to that particular subject.

Any aspects of the task that are absolutely essential I also put an asterisk next to it. When I’ve completed the task I go back and I line through it with a green highlighter letting me know that I am green to go beyond this task because it is complete.

When it comes to the individual tasks I highlight them with a pink highlighter as I go down my list once they are accomplished.

Again once the task overall is completely done and the project has been finalized, then I line through it with the green highlighter.

This enables me to flip through the pages very quickly and identify which projects I have not completed. They simply will not have a green highlighter Mark through them.

This has really simplified my task management and made it simple to identify what things I need to do. It is super great when I finally finish all of the pages up to a certain point that I can draw a line across that page indicating that all tasks up to that point are completely done.

How to Hire a Sales Rep: the non-conventional way

How to hire a sales rep. There’s been a lot of thought that’s going into what personality type in one of those character traits that are significant for a qualified and excellent sales rep.
Many studies have been done and have suggested that depending on the type of sale, you may want to consider the type of personality that you’re putting into that position.
For example technical sales usually require somebody with a higher aptitude for detail.
They are not necessarily gregarious. Usually it makes sense to pick a person that my nature is slightly more aggressive than the audience they are selling too.
An old rule of thumb is to address slightly better than the best dressed customer that you’ll meet that day. Personality works similarly.
But overall, what are you looking for in the perfect sales candidate? Do you want them to be driven? What about two driven?
If the sales rep is to driven, they can turn their aggression inward towards the organization and cause problems.
If the candidate is to gregarious and outgoing, he or she may lack the organizational skills necessary in order to pull off the job well.
So, a friend of mine actually resorted to trying to find out one key character trait that expresses the type of person who will do well selling in almost any area.
Once I tell you this little known fact, you may be slightly surprised or blown out of your socks.
But the truth is it’s been proven over and over.
The problem is is that this information is so politically incorrect, it’s sometimes hard to discover or even get out.
The truth of the matter is that you might have a really tough time finding out this information in just a minute you’ll understand why.
Research has shown that the best sales reps typically have a high sex drive.
Yep, you heard me right. They wanted all the time.
So you can imagine how this goes over in an interview. Hey do you like to have sex? Enraged your candidate sues you for sexual harassment during an interview.
So yeah, you can’t just come out and asked that. How do you do it? It’s kind of simple.
You meet your candidate after hours at a restaurant. During the discourse and casual conversation you ask and probe into what makes them tick.
You ask them what they get excited about and what they love to do.
If they answer in anyway that suggest they like to spend time with the opposite sex, you got your answer bingo.
Fire them and hire them fast.
It’s always worked for me.

Social Media Floats

Transparency and social media

So whatever happened to MySpace?

MySpace was definitely the number 1 Train Center Center when it comes to the launch of social media I mean… How many of us created pages in MySpace and added music and did all kinds of cool things to spice up their page? From online chatting to social media, the Internet is completely different number was 20 years ago. I believe that the only thing that’s the same is sitting in front of a computer screen for 20 hours without a bathroom break.

Of course I am exaggerating, but with the advent of Facebook, just, Pinterest, Instagram, kick, and other social outlets, Live online is completely different. So how much transparency do you want to offer up online? I think the most appropriate answer is related to how you are positioned online
For example is the Internet related to your business? Do you have newsfeeds etc. that may portray you in the wrong manner online? If you’re a stay at home mom, then transparency may be easier. If you have a smaller friend circle and you’re relatively intimately connected.

But if you’re like most of us who even if they are a stay at home mom, have a large social network, then it makes sense to be pretty picky about how you’re represented on mine.

One of my recommendations is for you to go out and buy your own name as a URL. Create manage and host your own website all about you. Share the things that you want to share and want to be known about you and don’t share the things that you would consider too personal.

This way you can refer people to your website if they want to know more about you. Save your rant about your ex and just post the things that are most appropriate for your day. On the social networks. For the rest, send them to your domain name. Don’t worry about how you write the articles and content on your website related to you. Most people right in the third person. Think about it this way. The Internet offers you the rare opportunity to create your own story. You can write your own book about yourself. You can make yourself shine and share the things that are intimate only as it occurs to be comfortable for you.

This way you have absolute control over your social profile. If you want to come off as a guru, you may even want to password protect some of your information. You can use word press or some of the domains registrars website builders and they often offer some kind of solution for a password protected area.

This is a lot of fun and it puts energy into something that is lasting.

These days uploading content and pictures and other forms of media and digital information has been made so simple that anyone can operate and own their own domain name. You no longer need a webmaster to help you put together your own blog.

Hey, you might even be able to generate some traffic from Facebook and other social media outlets to your blog and generate a small income on the side. The best way to do this is to register with different affiliate networks will allow you to post banner advertisements on your site anytime they the customers order or register using a link that you provided, you get paid a small commission.

It’s pretty nifty and New bloggers are popping up each and every day. Don’t think you’re an expert? It doesn’t matter, if you blog about something enough you will become an expert.
